How to spend Earth Day at Brunswick Forest

Friday, April 20, 2012

With Earth Day just around the corner, we’ve come up with 10 ways to join in the fun at Brunswick Forest.

  1. Walk, bike or hike on the 100+ miles of trails throughout picturesque Brunswick Forest…be sure to stroll through the boardwalk!
  2. Gather your neighbors and walk your favorite park picking up any litter you see along the way.  When finished, reward yourselves with ice cold lemonade.
  3. Grab a friend and head down to the River Club at Brunswick Forest for a kayak adventure.
  4. Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Take a picture of something that inspires you!
  5. Visit the Brunswick Forest Tree Nursery.  Did you know that Brunswick Forest has planted over 1000 trees throughout the community?!
  6. Cook a special Earth Day dinner and invite your friends and neighbors. Plan a menu that uses locally produced foods, is healthy and has minimal impact on the environment.
  7. It’s not too late to get the kids together for an Earth Day Fair.  Have each child create a display showcasing environmentally-friendly products, recycling tips, Earth Day inspired artwork or healthy/locally grown foods to eat.  Then, gather at the Community Commons near the Brunswick Forest Fitness & Wellness Center and put on the fair.
  8. Visit the Leland Recreation Building on Saturday, April 21st for the Free Plant Giveaway in honor of Earth Day 2012.
  9. Start composting!  There’s no time like the present…just visit your local hardware store and they can get you started.
  10. Be car free…walk to The Villages in Brunswick Forest to start your morning off and grab a cup of coffee at Port City Java.  Then, head to the Fitness and Wellness Center for a quick work out.  Finish your day surrounded by your friends, family and neighbors because there is no better way to celebrate Earth Day than to be with the people you love!

Grand Opening of State Farm Insurance Office held at the Villages in Brunswick Forest

Friday, December 23, 2011

WILMINGTON
, NC, December 20, 2011 – Grand opening ceremonies were held last week marking the launch of Josh London State Farm Insurance office at The Villages at Brunswick Forest.

There for the event was State Farm Insurance staff and officials from the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce and Brunswick Forest.

Housed in a 1,450 square foot office located next to Port City Java in The Villages complex, the agency will offer both personal and commercial lines of State Farm insurance offerings, plus Humana medical supplement policies and wind and hail insurance through the North Carolina Joint Underwriter’s Association.

“We’re a full-service State Farm agency that can handle virtually any insurance needs our clients might require,” said London, the agency’s sole proprietor.  “Our staff is well-trained, highly knowledgeable and eager to help.”

London, a former marine and now business executive who has been living and working in the Raleigh, NC area for the past 13 years, recently moved to Brunswick Forest in advance of the opening of the State Farm agency.  His wife, a teacher, and three children will be joining him this summer at the conclusion of the school year.

The Villages at Brunswick Forest is a 160-acre complex that will be made up of more than 500,000 square feet of retail and professional establishments.  It is located at the entrance to Brunswick Forest on US Hwy 17 ten minutes south of Downtown Wilmington, NC, a 4,500-acre residential community offering homes, town homes and home sites with extensive community amenities.

“We’re delighted to welcome State Farm Insurance to The Villages,” said Alan Kerry, president of Lord Baltimore Properties, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lord Baltimore Capital Corporation and the sole developer of the community.  “Clearly the firm recognized our growth and decided this is where they wanted to be.  They’ll be serving our growing community and the surrounding areas for years to come.“

London said that he choose The Villages of Brunswick Forest for his office after an exhaustive search of the area.  As he put it, “There were many good choices for us, but in the end I felt I could not have found a better location.”

“Brunswick County continues to grow,” said London, “and Brunswick Forest is setting the pace.  We’re looking forward not only to serving the Brunswick Forest community but all of Brunswick County as it continues to mature and expand.”

In 2011 more homes and home sites sold in Brunswick Forest than at any time in the community’s five-year history.  According to the development’s closed sales records, more than 160 homes and home sites sales were recorded in 2011, representing a volume in excess of $40 million.   More than 800 families now call the community home.

The Villages at Brunswick Forest

The Villages project has been enjoying steadily growing occupancy by a variety of businesses drawn to the growing Brunswick Forest property owner base and to the growth of the Brunswick County area in general.

Most recently, construction work is well underway for a coming Lowes Foods FreshSmart store and a CVS/pharmacy store.

The two anchor tenants represent approximately 55,000 square feet of additional offerings at the Wilmington, NC community town center. Developers expect the opening of both stores sometime around the middle of 2012 in not before, along with an additional 8,000 square foot retail complex nearby.

Last summer New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) opened a 40,000 sq. ft. Health and Diagnostics building in The Villages, bringing physicians, technicians and other healthcare providers to serve Brunswick forest and area communities.  Most recently,

Wilmington Health Associates, a multi-faceted medical practice that last summer moved into 5,000 square feet of office space in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center office building, doubled their existing space.

With a main campus in central Wilmington, NC, recently opened is the Glen Meade Center for Women’s Health, which has nearly 2,000 square feet of additional practice space in the NHRMC office building and has begun seeing patients following several months of upfit work to install state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Also occupying the NHRMC medical office building are practices that include Atlantic Orthopedic, Morgan Internal Medicine and Urology Comprehensive Services.  In a standalone building, operations have begun at the Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital, a 4,500 square foot, highly specialized facility representing one of the most advanced in the area.

Also already located in The Villages is Port City Java, BB&T Financial Center, Blue Wave Dentistry and a Brunswick County Sherriff substation.  Announcements regarding the start of construction for other major shopping, professional and lodging facilities is expected shortly.

Brunswick Forest is situated on 4,500 acres of woodlands, creeks, forests and natural areas.  Residents choose from a wide range of prices and lifestyle options, from low-maintenance luxury town homes to home sites and spacious custom homes. Secluded neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive character, are found throughout the community. Residents also enjoy a wide variety of amenities in place today, including an 18-hole Championship golf course at Cape Fear National®, an 18,000 square foot Fitness and Wellness Center, a Community Commons, a River Club, parks and natural areas and more than 100 miles of paths and trails.

Meet the Kachuras

Bill and Valerie Kachura

These two Jersey residents (of fifteen years) made their way to the North Carolina Coast because of all of the “cliché” reasons as they called them...harsh weather, high taxes and bad traffic.  “Did I mention the weather?!” Bill chimed in once more.

“We felt like when we stopped working that it was time for us to move on,” Valerie said.

And, move on they did…right to Brunswick Forest!  However, the journey to finding Brunswick Forest as they recall wasn’t quite that easy.

“We visited communities up and down the East Coast without finding that special something” Bill said.  “We began to think we were going back to Jersey,” Valerie remembers.  “But, then we found it!  Brunswick Forest was the last stop on our trip and we just knew it.  From the pools and other amenities, it had it all!  Now, we get to enjoy it all.”

Valerie is a fitness junkie and swims laps in the pristine pool at the Brunswick Forest Fitness & Wellness Center.  Bill enjoys golfing at Cape Fear National and his insider tip is to “bring extra balls.”  This couple couldn’t be happier with their decision of choosing Brunswick Forest.  “Our friends back in Jersey thought we were nuts to leave.  We think it’s marvelous,” the couple concluded!

Meet the Hubers

Dave and Marlene Huber                                 Their Swan Family

Dave and Marlene Huber are an active couple who love the “big happy family” feel of Brunswick Forest.  They moved over to Brunswick Forest in 2008 after living in Landfall (located in Wilmington, NC) for a little over 15 years.  The decision to move from Landfall to Brunswick Forest was simple…value!  The Hubers enjoyed an active lifestyle in Landfall, but grew weary of the fees associated with that lifestyle.  The Hubers began their search for the perfect community for active adults.  They visited The Bluffs, St. James Plantation and Magnolia Greens, but knew once they saw Brunswick Forest that it was the perfect place for them.

There is never a dull moment for these two.  Marlene says, “You can be as busy as you want to be,” which is exactly what they are!  Dave is an avid golfer and the founding member of the Men’s Golf Association at Brunswick Forest.  Marlene participates in the Fitness and Wellness Center programming everyday, attends bible study and grows her own herbs and vegetables at the Community Garden.  They both find enjoyment in the countless resident sponsored events that take place in and around Brunswick Forest.  The couple has also taken affection to the beautiful black swans that live in the pond behind their home…they come swimming and squawking whenever Mama Marlene calls!

The Hubers simply love the life they have built here at Brunswick Forest and encourage others to come sample all that their community has to offer!

Meet the Duvalls

Bill and Beth Duvall

The Duvalls have an interesting story to tell.  Both are originally from Ohio, then moved to Clinton, NC where they raised their children and spent most of their life.  They loved the community they lived in and the friends they had there, so when they retired they were looking for those same qualities.

They chose to build their dream retirement home in Holden Beach, NC.  Wait...stop the story...is this correct???

It sure is!  They retired to Holden Beach only to realize the qualities they were looking for...community and friends...were hard to be found.  They missed the socialization they had in Clinton.  So the retirement dream home search began again.

They soon found Brunswick Forest and knew they had found their true retirement dream home!  They love the amenities and the friends they have made here.  Their schedule if full of activities from day-to-day.  Bill loves to golf at Cape Fear National and Beth says, "I love the Fitness and Wellness Center.  I take all the classes...Zumba, Pilates, Boot camp!"

"We simply love it here!  We are convinced we live on the best street in the neighborhood," say Bill.
