The long-awaited I-140 Wilmington Bypass has officially opened to traffic as of Tuesday, December 19. After 17 years in the making, a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 15th marked the completion of the $411 million highway.

For Brunswick County residents, the completion of this final segment has been much anticipated. This new stretch of highway runs from the Highway 17/421 interchange near New Hanover County to U.S. 74-76 in Brunswick County, completing the bypass of Wilmington.

Brunswick Forest is conveniently located approximately 2 miles from the bypass, allowing residents and visitors leaving the area to completely omit driving through Leland and Wilmington from their travel time.

The opening of this new route is expected to ease the traffic flow through the area and allow for continued economic growth and development throughout Brunswick County.
